Egypt’s new Labour Law No. 14 of 2025 took effect on 1 September 2025. It provides a framework for the relationship between employers and workers, covering contracts, working hours, pay, modern working arrangements and the resolution of employment disputes.

Working hours

The law sets a general limit of eight actual working hours per day or forty-eight per week, excluding meal and rest periods from actual work. The exceptions and overtime rules need to be considered for the activity and circumstances.

Irregular employment

The law addresses protection for irregular workers through dedicated mechanisms and provisions. The applicable statutory text and implementing decisions determine eligibility and the relevant procedures.

Modern forms of work

The law recognises modern forms of work, including remote, flexible, part-time and digital-platform arrangements. These require a clear understanding of the relationship and of the parties’ rights and obligations.

Pay and financial rights

The law regulates wages, payment obligations and workers’ financial rights. A pay dispute calls for examination of the contract, work records, financial documents and relevant legal provisions.

Foreign workers

Foreign employment is subject to requirements and procedures established by the legal framework and applicable decisions. The work, documentation and permissions relevant to the individual case need review before proceeding.

Investigations and disciplinary measures

The law sets out safeguards for workplace investigations and disciplinary measures. Assessing a measure requires review of the facts, records, procedural protections and time limits relevant to it.

Specialised labour courts

The law includes provisions for specialised labour courts and a dedicated judicial framework for employment disputes. The required steps vary with the subject and procedural stage of the matter.
